Jamaal "Visualist" Clark on His Second Curve the Cube Podcast Appearance

I had a chance to catch up with long-time friend of the podcast--artist and photographer, Jamaal "Visualist" Clark.

We chat about his painting, his photography, and expanding his horizons and his vision for the future!

Now, I didn't have a chance to record a Learning Curve segment for this episode. Things have been CRAZY these last couple of weeks with technical issues post-Hurricane Irma and with preparing for my International Podcast Day broadcast. But, I promise to get The Learning Curve back on track for the next episode!!

Also, I'll be starting up a new segment in a future episode where I share something cool that a former guest or one of you guys is doing in pursuing your dream. And, I'm open to suggestions for naming that segment. Drop me a line on the Dreamers Become Doers Facebook page to make your suggestion!

Enjoy!!

Haitian Artist to the Stars Jason JaFleu Fleurant on the Curve the Cube Podcast

One of my favorite people (and my birthday buddy), Jason "Jafleu" Fleurant, visits the podcast FOR THE THIRD TIME!! He's our first three-peat, and this is our most exciting conversation to DATE! He shares fun stories of his milestones, opens up about the struggles, lays down insightful knowledge, and comes through with all the feels. He is a remarkable talent who is a rising star!!

Included in this episode is a VERY special announcement of my own--one that is a culmination of 6 months of solid hard work on my part and mentorship on the part of Glenn the Geek from the Horse Radio Network. It's HUGE.

This episode is being released ahead of schedule, as Hurricane Irma is most likely going to knock out my power and internet for a while. Eek! So, to all my listeners in Florida, download it NOW, so you can use it as a distraction while you are hunkering down. Be safe. Take Irma seriously, and I will talk to you all on the other side!

Photographer Nikyta Haynes on the Curve the Cube Podcast

Thanks so much for joining me on episode 120 where I feature one of my new best friends (seriously... I told her I was adopting her as my new little sister), photographer Nikyta Haynes!! Her brand is Kyta Beez and her tag line is "Definitely Different" and I can personally testify that this girl STANDS OUT!! I got to meet her at an art exhibit by long-time friend of the show, Jafleu. She was just walking around doing her thing and taking pictures. I had brought my son, Jordon, along with me and surprised him by bringing his camera, so he could take pictures, too. (He wants to be a photographer when he grows up, after all.)

We ran into Nikyta while wandering the various photography studies and Jordon and I were both instantly taken by her. She was so kind to him, he loved her "cool" camera, as he put it, and they even took photos together in one of the professional studios. You simply don't meet kind people like that everyday. And, when she gave me a glimpse into her story, I just HAD to have her on the show!

And, she was so nice in joining me at my Entrepreneur Influencers Brunch hosted by Style Chambers last weekend. She took some great photos of the event, which you can browse through here.

Now, sit back and relax and listen to this inspiring episode with Nikyta and check out her work at Kytabeez.com! It's episode 120... enjoy!

#104 - Artist and Activist - Rolando Chang Barerro - 20161115

Activist and Artist Rolando Chang Barerro on the Curve the Cube Podcast

It's the 104th episode of the Curve the Cube podcast with local and already legendary artist and activist Rolando Chang Barerro!! This man has seen, been through, and done a LOT. I mean, holy schnikes!! You've been warned, curvists... This episode is pretty raw.

I met up with Rolando at his latest gallery venture, the Box Gallery off of Belvedere Road in West Palm Beach--really excited to talk about his art and his career and everything like that. But, we ended up talking, yes... about that, but also about SO MUCH MORE!! From the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 80s through the evolution of activism into modern times, Rolando has seen up close and personal a history in this country that hasn't always been pretty, but has brought out a spirit of activism that has always been at the core beautiful.

So, sit back and relax, and enjoy this, the 104th episode of Curve the Cube with artist, activist, and overall wonderful human, Rolando Chang Barerro.

#97 – 3D STREET ARTIST – Jennifer Chaparro - 2016-09-24

3D Interactive Street Artist Jennifer Chaparro on the Curve the Cube Podcast

Multiple award-winning street artist Jennifer Chaparro creates interactive 3D art on a spans of flat pavement, concrete, … you name it! And, her work, though physically temporary, will never leave the audience’s memory. Whether pretending to sit in a kayak about to go over a waterfall, or (as I did) practicing a balancing act on a giant crayon, I can personally testify that enjoying her interactive art is simply a joy that sticks with you. On this podcast, Jennifer explains the genius behind how she does it. Very cool!!

Jen is a fun and extremely business-savvy woman, and in this episode tells her story of how she fell out of the corporate office and into the life of 3D street art—at first accidentally; then with all the drive and gusto of a determined business owner. And, through talent, passion, and drive, she is now following her dreams all over the world!

#83 – PHOTOGRAPHER – Estelle DeShocka - 2016-07-01

Photographer Estelle DeShocka on the Curve the Cube Podcast

I’ve been an admirer of Estelle DeShocka’s photography for quite some time—watching her in action at various events and then seeing the amazing results online. She is quick on her feet and truly takes such great shots! I’m so glad that on this podcast, I got to finally talk to her more in depth about all the amazing photos she captures at other photo shoots and I then see her share through her various social media outlets. (My favorite was definitely the zombie wedding!)

Estelle and I get into the types of photo shoots she likes best, where she gets her great theme ideas, how she secures her models and additional vendors and more. She even gives me insight into a very valuable insides source for some of her most amazing props and locations.

She has been carrying around a camera since the time of her earliest memories. With a mom in graphic design to learn from and an unending devotion to her craft to develop her skills, Estelle is sure to continue to take her photography and career to the next level!

#73 – ARTIST AND PHOTOGRAPHER – Jamaal “Visualist” Clark – 2016-04-11

Artist and Photographer Jamaal "Visualist" Clark on the Curve the Cube Podcast

I met Jamaal “Visualist” Clark at an art event put on by Exhibit Treal a couple of weeks ago where he was photographing the evening. And, it turns out that he was also a painter who had lent a couple of pieces to the event—pieces that I LOVED. So, I was excited to have Jamaal on the podcast.

We sat down and talked about a whole range of topics—from comic books to graffiti, film to digital, his time in school to being a teacher now himself. And, Jamaal was delightful throughout it all. He shared with me what the name “Visualist” means, the theme behind his heart, and what mark he wants to leave in the art world. There are a lot of great nuggets in this podcast for any aspiring artist or person visualizing their own dream!!

#69 – ARTISTS AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS – Exhibit Treal – 2016-03-26

Jason "JaFleu" Fleurant and Tracy Guiteau of Exhibit Treal on the Curve the Cube Podcast

Treal= true + real

Utilizing the concept of “treal,” community leaders, Jason "JaFleu" Fleurant and Tracy Guiteau, are blazing a trail in our backyard to promote young, local talent—Exhibit Treal. They are both fine artists, and, as you’ll hear, Tracy also has a background in fashion design. But, they are also community leaders doing so much to share all they have learned in the bumps in the journey of an artist's life, be strong examples of fortitude, and really inspire and support the community's youth. Their Exhibit Treal events bring local artists together in a safe space free of the b.s. and typical pitfalls that can swallow up their talent, and instead give them a place to breathe and thrive.

In this podcast, Jason, Tracy, and I talk about all their events, why their mission means so much to them, and a little of what it's like growing up Haitian. It's a super fun, funny, and inspiring podcast!

And my little session at the end features Snoop Dog’s “Gin and Juice” as arranged by The Gourds. Don’t blame me for all the gritty language, blame Snoop Dog!!

So, sit back and relax and get ready to get treal! Enjoy!!

#68 – UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHER – Chris Gug - 2016-03-15

Chris Gug Gulielmo on the Curve the Cube Podcast

I recently had the absolute honor of sitting down with America’s premier underwater wildlife photographer, Chris Guglielmo (or simply "Gug," as he is known in most circles). Gug is one of those rare individuals who was gifted with a passion at an early age that he has continued to grow and excel at. He has been diving and photographing marine life since he was 15 years old, and in this podcast he talks about planning and conquering his shots, the secret to his vivid colors, and demystifying some common misconceptions.

The conversation took an unanticipated (yet, highly welcomed) turn toward a discussion on environmental conservation, and we discovered our mutual passion for animal rights and species preservation. Gug gets to travel the world in pursuit of the best shots, and he seems very genuine in his gratitude for living his dream.

Raised in the Bronx, painter Herbert Weintraub captures the mid-century New York neighborhood charm in his art with such warm essence, you are immediately transported into his memory. And, now that he is living in Florida, his talents are right in our backyard.

In this podcast, I talk to Herbert about how he raised 6 kids, working hard every day to make it in life as an artist. He traveled through various art show circuits; and, though not always successful, he followed his inner passion and pressed on. Now, he is highly revered and accomplished, with his work included in some very impressive collections. Herbert is sweet, charming, and quite inspiring with a Norman Rockwell-esque style of work.

Fiber Artist Gin Blische on the Curve the Cube Podcast

The fuzzy, meticulously-detailed, and immediately nostalgic fabric sculptures by Gin Blische will leave you equally impressed and amazed!  I had heard through the West Palm Beach grapevine (i.e., Deshon Allen) that there was so much more to Gin than I knew.  So, when I did my digging and found out about all her talents, I just HAD to have her on!

In this podcast, Gin talks about how she discovered such a unique passion and how she has made these creations come to life!  We even talked about her days heading up bands, performing with her twin sister, and so much more.  We met up at Callaros Steak House and had an amazing time!

Carlos Aleman is a Cuban-American man hailing from New York who makes his home now in south Florida—pursuing his creative passions of art and writing.  He is prolific in his art production—it simply lives within him; and, his novels have been not only well-received, but critically acclaimed!  I find his scope of talent as fascinating as someone who can play a bunch of instruments—it’s simply part of his DNA.

The concept of his upcoming art exhibit is Dark Chocolate—essentially exploring the beauty of our differences that really make us all the same.  It’s simply a beautiful message, and I hope everyone heads out to his exhibit!  It will be on August 28th starting at 6:30pm at the Sunrise Civic Center.

You can find the info on his upcoming exhibit here! (Cosplay wear is encouraged!)  And, for more info on his critically-aclaimed novels, head here!

#25 – ARTIST – Jason “JaFleu” Fleurant - 2015-04-25

Jason "JaFleu" Fleurant Block

A child of Haitian immigrants doesn’t often believe that a sustainable living as an artist is even conceivable. But, Jason "JaFleu" Fleurant is a prime example of a person breathing a dream to life one creative step at a time. And, it’s not all about courange for Jason (“JaFleu” as he is known in artistic circles).  No, it is simply his undeniable NEED to paint—to create—to express.  And his joy comes from living his emotions out loud on canvas for all the world to see and be moved by.

A community man, he finds ways to not only trail blaze for the people around him, but to inspire children to break to the expectations of their own lives.  He opens up their eyes and minds to possibilities, and opens their hearts to their dreams.

JaFleu is an inspiration to his neighborhood, the Haitian community, and humanity as a whole!  Find and follow him on:
