It was such a pleasure to catch up with my 8th guests (Cohen Robinson, Patrick Watkins, and Myles “Trufe” Robinson) after watching them wow the crowd at the Sets in the West Neighborhood Block Party this past Friday off of 5th Avenue in Delray! Not only did they put on a fantastic show, but they also showcased an even wider variety of talent—this time including reggae (http://www.PaulAnthonyReggae.com) and spoken word (@ByrdPoetry) performers, a full band, and Uzi—a local rap artist who joined us on this episode. We last recorded a podcast back on December 20th, 2014 after they opened up for Vanilla Ice; and, to see how much their musicianship has continued to accelerate was phenomenal. There was a quintessential Florida storm brewing that caused a power outage and eventually cut the set short; but, these guys didn’t miss a beat or let the energy drop. They made what could have been a complete bummer into a really beautiful moment. This episode starts off in my car with Cohen and Uzi on our way to the post-performance celebration, and we end up at Salt Seven off Atlantic Avenue. We had a fantastic time kicking back over cocktails and calamari as they basked in the afterglow of the stage. They are true professionals and even truer friends. You’re going to love this podcast!! Be sure to listen all the way to the end for a couple of special treats and to look out for their EP coming out soon. From Orphan Black and Breaking Bad to a minutes-long dissertation from Jay on the wonder that was Lou Ferrigno as the Incredible Hulk, the Pod Squad delivers laughs on the shows we love to binge watch. My 75th episode was spent in the delightful company of Mr. Darius Murray, Clinical Mentoring Associate for FAU‘s CARD, or Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. His passion for helping the most vulnerable in our community was obvious from the start—particularly when he talks about CARD’s iRise2 Mentoring program, which pairs young protégés (ages 11-21 or 22) with mentors from all walks of life. We discuss what the autism spectrum is, particular challenges, the rising statistics, vaccines, and more. Darius has spent his life giving to others, having worked his way through the Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County, AmeriCorps, and Big Brothers Big Sisters previously. So, he definitely had a lot to share with me about the importance of volunteerism generally. Mostly, though, we talk about the iRise2 mentoring program. He is very clear that ANYONE can be a mentor (after passing a background check, of course!), and that current mentors come from all kinds of backgrounds, skillsets, and interests. And, if the mentor program is not quite someone’s cup of tea, there are so many other opportunities to positively and powerfully /impact youth with autism. Reach out to Darius by phone at 561-213-6936 or by email at dmurra23@fau.edu. Or, head to Autism.FAU.edu. My guest in (yes, really the) 74th episode features my new “professional compass,” Jeremy Pound, the CEO of Juicy Results where I recently started as their Internet Marketing Coordinator. Juicy Results. Known as the “Internet marketing agency for the Fortune Five Million, Jeremy and his Juicy Results crew specialize in solid web design and maintenance, SEO, and social media marketing. In running his company, Jeremy maintains a keen focus on company culture, and has created one like I’ve never seen, including first-day champagne bottles, a four-legged receptionist named Jackson, and an emphasis on continuous learning. On my first day he introduced me to the Growth Mindset pioneer,
Carol Dweck, by listening to her appearance on Bryan Allen’s podcast. It was
astonishing to me how much I was able to connect with it, and I
highly recommend that all of you listen to that on your next
podcast binge. It’s a solid window into my “curvist” philosophy. Jeremy and I talk a lot about marketing and being an active business leader in our community, but also about his childhood creative endeavors, parental influences, and what he cringes at being called. (Spoiler alert: I TOTALLY call him it in the beginning. Ha!) Follow Jeremy Pound on: Twitter |
