In this episode, I catch up with young and super-talented DJ & music composer, Alex Ariete! You may remember Alex as one of my very first CTC Kid from episode 11—back when he was known by his original stage name, DJ Pop Drop. Each time I see Alex out and about, it’s incredible how much he’s grown—physically and musically. Since we last sat down, Alex has continued to develop his skills as a musician—creating new original tracks, playing a bunch of gigs, traveling for different events and things, meeting amazing EDM mentors, and collaborating with different artists. On top of that, Alex continues to excel at his dance, competing regularly and doing very well! He’s simply a powerhouse of young, ambitious, and promising talent. On the podcast, we talk about how he’s grown musically and artistically and how important his parents’ support continues to be. Catch Alex on Palm Beach FM every other Tuesday night where he is not only a resident DJ, but is also starting to conduct his own industry interviews. I’m so excited to see where this kid goes! Founder of Poetry In Motion Productions: (PIMP!), Jessica, now known as “Empress Prestige,” knows a thing or two about doing her own thing. She began what started as an unformed idea mass four years ago and worked it into what is now a thriving, repeat project of her own unique concept: ChoreoPoems. These are forms of dramatic expression that combine poetry, dance, music and song. She conceptualizes the overall story arc, directs the talent, and produces the overall program; but, what makes her plays so unique is that she leaves creative license for each role and its expression to the individual player. Essentially, the cast writes much of the content and she threads it together into a cohesive, intelligent expression of her story. Their next project is the 4th installment of Pleasant City Thee ChoreoPoem to be shown soon at The Palm Beach Improv and The Mozart Theatre. Also, Empress is working to bring this piece into the forum of a film called Thee Movie. So exciting!! Her storytelling has community and cultural purpose for the enjoyment and education of every generation. Her diligence, humor, and passion are a true inspiration! Welcome to a BONUS episode of the Curve the Cube Podcast. It is just a bonus, but still very worthy of a number. So, it’s #84! It’s been a while since I’ve covered an event, and this was very impromptu, but still very fun. (To hear the last event I covered, you will have to rewind to episode #60 where I covered an art gallery opening and then pretty far back to episode #16 with the Shock Pop Comic Con.) In THIS episode, I get to geek out about the phenomenon of Pokémon Go! There is one local spot that is taking FULL advantage: The Palm Beach Zoo! They laid down some lures and transformed their park full of Pokéstops into a Pokémon trainer’s dream. Sending out a map ahead of time, the zoo primed the local masses to get their teams together and have a #PokemonGo invasion… and it worked!! A newbie trainer myself, I was SO JAZZED to get out there and go hunting for Pokémon. So, I had my map ready and spent a fun evening capturing Exeggcutes, Pinsirs, Poliwags, and TONS more. The fountain area was particularly littered. It was awesome!! I stopped along the way and talked to a couple of groups of fellow trainers who were kind enough to spare a few minutes for my questions. (Thanks, guys!) We talked about the sudden craze that is Pokémon Go, getting into teams, strategy, and how much the special event drew them to be at the zoo that night. It was awesome! There was live music, a Food Truck Invasion (shout out to Hoffman’s Chocolates!), and of course the wonderful and real-life Pokémon—the animals themselves! They absolutely remained the stars of the show!! I’m having a full podcast with some peeps from the Zoo in a couple of weeks. It’s slated to be episode #88 and released on August 8th; but, keep in touch over social media for updates—mostly on Twitter. But, aslo keep an eye out while playing the game yourselves! Remember to keep looking up and watching out for “No Trespassing” signs, sketchy folk, cliffs, and mall fountains. It’s just a game, people!! This is Pokémon Go at the Palm Beach Zoo! Enjoy!! Since this quick, impromptu episode has no sponsor, I’ll ask you to please consider supporting the show yourself. It’s my complete pleasure to continue to bring you a show for free, and I thank my sponsors for covering most of my costs. But, there is still room for more help—and, that is where you can come in. Help me continue to keep bringing you conversations with south Florida’s most inspiring, passionate, and talented people. Any amount helps. Visit https://www.patreon.com/CurveTheCube. I’ve been an admirer of Estelle DeShocka’s photography for quite some time—watching her in action at various events and then seeing the amazing results online. She is quick on her feet and truly takes such great shots! I’m so glad that on this podcast, I got to finally talk to her more in depth about all the amazing photos she captures at other photo shoots and I then see her share through her various social media outlets. (My favorite was definitely the zombie wedding!) Estelle and I get into the types of photo shoots she likes best, where she gets her great theme ideas, how she secures her models and additional vendors and more. She even gives me insight into a very valuable insides source for some of her most amazing props and locations. She has been carrying around a camera since the time of her earliest memories. With a mom in graphic design to learn from and an unending devotion to her craft to develop her skills, Estelle is sure to continue to take her photography and career to the next level! Raised amongst generations of musicians, Myles “The Trufe” Robinson was destined to find the rhythm of his own musical beat. He uses his talent to dig into often difficult issues with a message that is always raw and real. Speaking to his most inner and honest emotions, his flows are smooth and captivating. However, it is his work ethic that has had him rising about the rest. There are no participation trophies handed out in the music industry, and Myles has put in every ounce of the hard work it takes to really make it and be taken seriously. On this podcast, Myles talks about the importance of smart, chemistry-driven collaboration and the meaning of a hard day’s work. A young dad with more than one job, Myles is more determined than the average dreamer, and his hard work is paying off! Watch out for his upcoming projects—including “The Calm Before the Storm” with guest #80, Uzi 311.
