#106 - NEWS and CULTURE - Jason Parsley - 20161125

Jason Parsley, Executive Editor of the South Florida Gay News on the Curve the Cube Podcast

I recorded this podcast with Jason Parsley, Executive Editor of the South Florida Gay News about a month ago, guys, and I'm so excited to finally bring you this episode! We first met on episode #102 when Jason lent his voice to the post-election protest in downtown West Palm Beach. I loved his passion for his cause and just HAD to have a guested episode with him!

As the Executive Editor of the South Florida Gay News, Jason lends his journalism talents to depicting gay life down here in south Florida. He strives to strike a balance between being gay community-focused, while also presenting people in a broader sense to remind us all that sexual orientation and the issues that go along with that aren't the only ways to define people. With a wide reach of TOPICS ranging from entertainment to politics (and all the blurry lines in between), there are a host of interests in the South Florida Gay News sure to keep you reading and in the know!!

Thanks so much for listening. Remember to find you passion and do your thing with the Curve the Cube podcast!!

#49 – Multimedia Journalist – Jason Hackett - 2015-10-24

Jason Hackett of WPTV on the Curve the Cube Podcast

What a fun podcast this was with Jason Hackett of WPTV!!! Jason and I yuck it up throughout pretty much the entire thing! We met up at the Vivid Arts App kickoff party for previous guests, EGee Labs, at Le Rendez-vous, and simply had a great time. His spoke very affectionately about every crew he’s worked with, acknowledged that he has a responsibility on air as a black role model, and LOVED (not!) that I found out which fun kids’ spot he worked at in his early years.

We took a pretty serious turn early in the discussion to talk about Corey Jones—the latest case focusing the national discussion of excessive force by police. All of these stories from Zimmerman to Ferguson on forward have hit close to home for both of us; but, now it was actually in our own backyard. His coverage of the peaceful rally of family, friends, and other supporters of Corey Jones was exceptional, and his take on it from his various perspectives was highly insightful.

In the end, he turned the tables on me with a question that lead to a complete and utter GEEK OUT by us both, and I’m still stunned that he knew as much on that topic as I do. So, you’ll have to wait for that little nugget of podcast goodness. But, his facial expressions (and the adult beverage I was sipping on) had me laughing through the entire conversation. It was simply soooo fun!!

One note of correction: I meant to say “Downy,” not Febreeze!! (You’ll know what I mean when it gets there, lol.)

#40 – METEOROLOGIST – Sandra Shaw - 2015-08-25

Sandra Shaw on the Curve the Cube Podcast

As a main face of the WPBF Channel 25 Weather team, Sandra Shaw is a leader in the field of meteorology and an inspiration to determined young scientists everywhere!!

Sandra first found her passion in the news through investigative reporting—covering big stories from fraud to human trafficking; but, Sandra found her true purpose and passion in the midst of covering hurricane Katrina back in 2005.  So, on this 10th anniversary of that pivotal moment in her life (and, as we are facing Erika, our first major storm in 10 years), the timing of having Sandra on the podcast couldn’t be more appropriate.

Sandra Shaw is smart, engaging, vibrant, and a truly delightful guest.  Further, in addition to being an avid runner, tennis player, reader, and writer, she is also a mommy; so, needless to say, she is a woman on the move.  Sandra Shaw is determined to reach for the stars as much as she studies them—a true role model!!

Be sure to follow Sandra Shaw on her social media!

#12 – Reporter for The List – Dan Corcoran - 2015-01-21

Dan Corcoran Block

Meet Dan Corcoran--one of the reporters for south Florida's division of Scripps' The List! Coming from a hard-hitting news background traveling the country, Dan's "Around South Florida" segments are a window into how he is getting his south Florida footing through some really random local finds!

The List is an entertaining trending topics show with funny and often nostalgic pop culture references sprinkled throughout. Through their locally-based "Around Town" segments, each market gets a more in-depth focus on its own backyard.  The show's motto is "There’s the news… and then there’s THE LIST."; and in south Florida, that often gets uniquely interesting. Dan's "Around South Florida" segments allow him to explore the local eateries, events, and other goings-on that make south Florida so captivating; and, Dan’s reporting is super sweet and charming!

Enjoy his podcast and then tune in to The List weeknights! In south Florida, that would be on WPTV Channel 5 at 7pm. Otherwise, check your local listings!

#9 – NEWS – Shushannah Walshe – 2014-12-23

Shushannah Walsh Block

Raised in south Florida, Shushannah Walshe has become a strong, driven presence on the national political scene.  She has previously reported for Fox News and the Daily Beast; but it was her co-authorship of “Sarah From Alaska: The Sudden Rise and Brutal Education of a New Conservative Superstar” with Scott Conroy that propelled her into the spotlight.  The book relates the aftermath of McCain’s surprise pick of Palin as his running mate and how the Palins navigated the sudden attention and scrutiny.

She has seen behind the scenes of the political curtain and lived to tell about it; and in this podcast, Shush shares what it’s like working in the political arena, being a writer and reporter, how she has accomplished her goals, and what she is most looking forward to with her career.

So, sit back and enjoy this very interesting and insightful interview!

#3 – NEWS - Jay Cashmere - 2014-11-12

Jay Cashmere Block

Wow! Jay Cashmere sure brought a lot of positivity and great energy to this podcast! Talk about a fun, sweet guy. Jay has been a part of south Florida’s news scene for nearly 14 years now (Happy Almost Anniversary, Jay!), and is currently an anchor for both WPTV News Channel 5 and WFLX Fox 29.

In our chat, Jay gives some really inspirational insights into how he pursued his career and was able to break into such a huge, hot market.  He is so appreciative of the opportunities that being a newsman in south Florida have brought him, takes every opportunity to give back, and shies away from the “local celebrity” label. His love of the news led him to an opportunity to explore his other passion—aviation; but, what happened that day is something you just have to hear for yourself!!

Enjoy this high-energy, insightful podcast and catch Jay weeknights as the anchor of WPTV (NBC 5) at 5:30 and WFLX (Fox 29) at 10pm.  Also, he also usually has a segment on his co-anchor, Shannon Cake’s, show, The Now, which airs on WPTV weekdays at 4pm.

Thanks, Jay!!!
